Mervi Toivanen appointed as FIN-FSA’s Chief Analyst

Mervi Toivanen, D.Sc. (Econ. & Bus. Adm.), has been appointed Chief Analyst at the Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA) with effect from 1 September 2022. Her predecessor, Sampo Alhonsuo, is retiring from the post.

Toivanen has extensive experience in various roles at the Bank of Finland and at the European Central Bank. In 2016–2017, she served in a deputising role as Chief Analyst at the FIN-FSA. In 2015, Toivanen successfully defended her doctoral thesis ‘Essays in Credit Contagion and Shocks in Banking’ at the University of Vaasa.

As Chief Analyst, Toivanen will focus especially on monitoring and analysing the financial markets, the macroeconomy and developments in the financial sector.
