The national transition period for virtual currency providers ended 30.6.2025 – information for consumers and investors
Provision of virtual currency services has been possible in Finland upon registration. The national legislation has been repealed and replaced by the European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) according to which crypto-asset service providers are required to have authorization by the competent authority. Authorized Finnish crypto-asset service providers will be added to the list of supervised entitities to Undertakings operating in the capital markets > Crypto-Asset Service Providers.
Only authorized crypto-asset service providers are allowed to actively offer and market their services.
A virtual service provider whose application for authorization is in process of reviewing may start actively offering its services only after the authorization is granted. If no authorization is granted, the company will have to terminate operations completely.
If you are client to a former virtual service provider, you may ask your service provider (for more information on) whether it has applied for authorization. If not, we recommend withdrawing your assets.
