Data Protection Ombudsman
The Data Protection Ombudsman monitors and guides the processing of personal data and controls the observance of law. The Ombudsman provides consultation in problems relating to the use, right of verification, correction, disclosure and protection of personal data. The Ombudsman handles and makes decisions on matters concerning personal and credit data as required by the Personal Data Act and the Credit Information Act.
On request, the Data Protection Ombudsman provides personal data controllers and data subjects with consultation in individual cases.
If a controller does not follow the Data Protection Ombudsman’s guidance and the Ombudsman assesses that the controller does not comply with regulations, the Ombudsman can, for instance, bring the act of violation to the consideration of the Data Protection Board. The Ombudsman also makes decisions pertaining to the implementation of the rights of data subjects. In matters concerning the implementation of the right of verification and the correction of personal data, the decisions of the Ombudsman are binding and subject to appeal.
